Apple Crumble Recipe With Pecans and Cinnamon
This yummy apple crumble recipe may well be one of the easiest desserts you'll ever make! Apple crumble is one of my all-time favorite puddings - it's a truly classic dish that never goes out of fashion and goes down a treat with almost everyone! This particular recipe uses brown sugar and cinnamon to give a sweet yet delicately spicy flavor.
Preparation Time 15 mins - Cooking Time 40 mins - Serves 4-6
Ingredients
For the filling:
4 Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored and cut into medium-sized pieces
3 tablespoons light brown sugar
2 tablespoons cold water
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the crumble topping:
150g plain flour
60g pecan nuts, finely chopped
125g soft unsalted butter, diced into cubes
125g caster sugar
Method
1. Place the chopped apples, brown sugar and water in a large saucepan. Bring to the boil, stir in the cinnamon, cover and simmer over a medium heat for about 10 minutes until the apples have begun to soften, stirring occasionally.
2. While the apples are cooking, make up the crumble topping. Sieve the flour and caster sugar into a large bowl. Add in the chopped nuts and butter and mix with your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3. Once the apples have cooked, place in a lightly greased shallow oven proof dish. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the top. Bake uncovered in a preheated oven at 190 degrees Celsius for approximately 25 minutes until the topping has turned golden brown. Serve with cream, custard or vanilla ice cream.
Variations
To give this apple crumble recipe a little extra crunch, you could try adding some granola or crushed cornflakes to the topping mixture.
Top Tip
When making the filling for this apple crumble recipe use natural, unrefined light muscovado sugar if you can. I think it makes this dish even tastier than using plain brown sugar!
Nutrition Nugget
There may well be some truth in the old saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away".
Research studies have suggested that regular consumption of apples may help to reduce blood cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of strokes, and reduce the risk of respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
