10 Minute Garlic Bread Recipe

Garlic Bread Recipe

This delicious homemade garlic bread recipe takes less than 10 minutes to make from start to finish! I think it tastes just as good as anything you can buy in the freezer section of your local supermarket, and it costs a fraction of the price. It's the perfect accompaniment to a bowl of pasta, or why not try dipping it in some healthy tomato and basil soup.

Preparation Time 5 mins - Cooking Time 5 mins - Makes 8 slices

Ingredients

1 small French bread stick

3 cloves of garlic, crushed or chopped into very fine pieces

2 heaped tablespoons of butter

Dried basil

Method

1. Cut the french bread stick into 8 slices. Place the butter and garlic in a dish and microwave on high for approximately 30 seconds until the mixture has melted.

2. Carefully spoon the melted butter over each slice of bread. Sprinkle the top of each piece with a little dried basil.

3. Place the garlic bread slices on a baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees celsius / 350 degrees fahrenheit / gas mark 4 for 5 minutes. Enjoy immediately.

Variations

You can adapt this garlic bread recipe by sprinkling some grated cheese on top of each buttered slice to create some delicious cheesy garlic bread. I like to use mature white cheddar, but of course you can use any hard cheese you prefer.

Top Tip

When buying garlic bulbs for this garlic bread recipe, try to selet ones which have unbroken skin. Always avoid bulbs which have shriveled, gone moldy or soft, or begun to sprout as this can be a sign of decay.

Nutrition Nugget

Garlic is a particularly good source of vitamins C and B6 and also contains potassium, iron and calcium.

In addition, some medical studies have suggested that regular consumption of garlic can help to lower the risk of developing several common cancers, and can also help to reduce your cholesterol levels.

Please check out this helpful article for more information on exactly how garlic can help to lower cholesterol and keep your heart healthy (opens new window).
